Paleontologists from the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug found the remains of Jurassic ichthyosaur. Traces of the animal in Western Siberia revealed for the first time, told Tass head of a scientific expedition, head of the department of Paleontology Museum of Nature and Human Anton faster.

"This year, during the excavation we found a well-preserved archaeological layer. Among the fossils of shellfish were two vertebral bone. It turned out that they belonged ichthyosaurs - told Slap. - The fact that during the Upper Jurassic in Western Siberia was at the bottom of the sea, which was surrounded by high mountains of the Urals. We assumed that in these latitudes could hobnob ichthyosaurs, but evidence of their habitat could not be found. " 

The approximate age of the remains found - 150 million years. According to the scientist, it is difficult to say whether the paleontologists found the entire skeleton ichthyosaur. "We will continue our expedition and we hope that we are lucky," - he added. 
Ichthyosaurus (from the Latin word for word "fish-lizard") - marine reptile, similar in body shape with fish and dolphins. They existed throughout most of the Mesozoic era.
