German Chancellor Angela Merkel speaks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukraine Petro Poroshenko related to the current situation in Ukraine. Separate conversations conducted ahead of a summit in Berlin, Monday.
"The talk covers the situation in Ukraine and related Minsk peace treaty. Chancellor expresses concern over the humanitarian situation in eastern Ukraine," said government spokesman Steffen Seibert Germany, as quoted by AFP on Saturday (01/10/2015).
When talking with Poroshenko, Merkel stressed its support for high-level peace dialogue with Russia, Ukraine, France and Germany. At the end of December, Poroshenko announced Normandy-style meeting will be held on January 15 in Astana, Kazakhstan.
While Putin, Merkel hopes all parties involved in the dialogue "can contribute fully to ensure progress under the agreement Minsk in September," said Seibert.
Merkel asked Putin to use its influence on the pro-Russian separatists.
So far, Russia denied Ukraine and Western countries for his involvement in the insurgency in eastern Ukraine.
